The Citizens Collective

A semi-annual event

Not Just Another Pop-Up Market

The Citizens Collective is a semi-annual pop-up market made up of a highly curated collective of talented makers and well traveled brands. The one of a kind market features a variety of handcrafted goods made by passionate and talented creatives locally - from the GTA - as well as goods made in collaboration with master artisans in countries further abroad like Mexico, Morocco, Kenya, and India. Everything from homewares and textiles to jewelry, clothing, accessories, skin + bodycare, artwork, paper goods, and much more! (What you won't find are thoughtless, cheap mass produced tchotkes because nobody likes those.)

we believe in

Bringing Thoughtful,
Well-Designed & Sustainable Goods to the Masses

We believe that thoughtful, well-designed, sustainable goods are the way of the future. More and more people are asking how their goods were made and interested in knowing the story and makers behind them. The Citizens Collective brings together these talented makers, designers, and artists under one roof to support their dreams of entrepreneurship while helping conscientious consumers connect and shop directly from dozens of brands under one roof.

We invite you to come to our Spring or Holiday markets and to discover the amazingly talented small businesses that are taking Toronto by storm; support the local economy while discovering great design. We’re certain you’ll leave having found new brands you can’t stop talking about and inspired by the talent, and passion they showcase. You’ll probably also leave with a purchase or two…or ten.

how we roll

& Vendors

Since launching in 2017, The Citizens Collective has hosted some of the most interesting and innovative brands to come out of Toronto (and neighbouring cities - special shout out to Montreal!). Below are just some of the small businesses that have participated in The Citizens Collective markets. See the full list here.

Maggie jayne

Founded in 2015, Maggie Jayne is a small, sustainable-oriented, contemporary clothing brand founded by its namesake Maggie MacCormick. The design studio is based in Halifax and the clothing is thoughtfully produced in Jaipur, India.

Inspired by the slow-living lifestyle, Esme and Fan create wheel-thrown functional, wearable and decorative handmade ceramic pieces in their home studio in small batches. Their well crafted pieces compliment nature, engage one’s senses, and encourage rituals in everyday life.

100 years of love

A contemporary home fragrance label founded in Toronto, Canada, 100 Years of Love is made with only the highest quality ingredients and through a process of small batch production - each and every candle is hand poured and hand labeled with love.

bethanie kaye

Woodworker Bethanie creates functional, modern art for the home and tabletop made from sustainably sourced wood. Each piece is one of a kind, handmade in Peterborough, Ontario.

The Citizens Collective

The Citizens Collective was founded by Jacqueline and Kisha - both small business owners themselves. After meeting in 2016 and immediately hitting it off over a shared passion of travel and working with artisans in developing countries, over coffee one day the two both shared their frustration at a lack of well curated pop-up markets for businesses like their own - ones that worked collaboratively with artisans abroad to create thoughtfully designed handmade goods. With a desire to support other like-minded small business owners with their dreams of entrepreneurship, they decided to create what they felt was missing and The Citizens Collective was born - not only for makers who create their goods locally, but also for brands who collaborate with and support artisans abroad.
